# Making
| | The **Maker Culture** is a contemporary subculture representing a technology-based extension of DIY culture that intersects with hardware-oriented parts of hacker culture and revels in the creation of new devices as well as tinkering with existing ones. The maker culture in general supports open-source hardware. Typical interests enjoyed by the maker culture include engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics, robotics, 3-D printing, and the use of computer numeric control tools, as well as more traditional activities such as metalworking, woodworking, and, mainly, its predecessor, traditional arts and crafts. |

## Video/Media/Streaming Box
- OSMC
- Supposed to be optimized better for lower end devices like the zero
- Kodi
- LibreElec
- OpenElec?
- [[Plex]]
- Emby?
- Jellyfin?
- OSMC (probably just for streaming stick)
### Media front end
- Include emulation?
- Recalbox, retropie, and batocera include media/video capabilities
### Streaming stick/chromecast/plug in to tv hdmi or usb
- Pi Zero W
- Include emulation?
- Can try to power it with tv usb but it can be unreliable
### Media server
## Video games & emulation box
[[Retro Gaming]]
[Best Retro-Gaming OS: Retropie, Recalbox, Batocera or Lakka? – RaspberryTips](https://raspberrytips.com/best-retro-gaming-os-raspberry-pi/)
- [[RetroPie]]
- There is an image available to install it like a standard operating system, but you can also install it on Raspberry Pi like any application.
- [[RecalBox]]
- [[Lakka]]
- It’s worth noting that Lakka doesn’t include Kodi by default, so you should check out Batocera, Recalbox, or RetroPie if you want additional video player functionality out of your emulation machine.
- [[Batocera]]
- [batocera.linux](https://batocera.org/)
- can run from a usb stick and live boot?
- SteamDeck

## Audio, radio listening stick
### Music Player, streamer, internet radio, radio transmitter, airplay, boombox
- Moode Audio Player OS
- pusicbox.com
- mopidy.com
- Pi dac zero
- Volumio
- Pirate Radio Throwy
- Combined player
- that can play on an integrated speaker, or plug into a speaker, or airplay to something
- Integrated battery?
- audio player
- internet radio streamer
- radio player
- and transmet to a radio frequency
- like old car adapter things
- also for pranks
- with screen
- select radio frequency
- choose play modes
- choose output
- speaker
- plugged in speaker
- choose airplay destinations
- Since it has all that, and an antenna, and a battery, could also make it a:
- Lora device/repeater?
- walkie talkie?
## Radio, Lora, HAM, CB, SDR device

- meshtastic for cabin
- ideally also have temp or other sensors on the device, or at least with a cable
- solar powered
- I could get other cabins on board probably so we could have them installed in better areas, permanently.
- t-echo for on a hike
- cabin-pi + keyboard and display for base station
- meshtastic for my house
- meshtastic mailbox
## USB Gadget & miscellaneous microcontroller dev board
(something like a [[Raspberry Pi Pico]] or LilyGo. But potentially a pi zero. Check what I got from pimoroni - a kit)
Good for general utility uses
- usb gadget
- usb drive
- files
- getting the system's info
- ip address, hostname, etc.
- act as a keyboard and/or mouse
- display
- ideally touch capacitive
Good for deving what you can do with these kinds of boards, smaller than a raspberry pi zero and not running an os - Arduino, circuit python, lilygo, esp32, etc.
- dev switches, hardware buttons, etc.
- control panel ideas
- [[Home Automation]]
- temperature sensor
- switch
- humidity
- macropad
- camera
- dev making my own keyboard with smart things, like a display, etc.
- a super mini keyboard like the lilygo lora keyboard
